In the Old Testament, a young man named Jacob, encountered God in a mysterious way. Jacob was conniving. He was self-focused. He was fleeing the wrath of his brother Esau when God came to him and heaped upon him amazing promises.
Jacob isn’t a likely suspect upon which you would anticipate God heaping blessing of his presence, of land, and of many descendants, but God did. That’s the unexpected and undeserved presence of God. In today’s sermon, we explore Jacob’s story and see how it at times is likely our story, a story of God’s generosity in the midst of adversity.
As you listen, our hope is that like Jacob you will find yourself declaring, “Surely God was in the place and I didn’t know it.”
Please share this sermon if it is a blessing.
