When something is shattered oftentimes it becomes scattered as well. Glass that shows up on a beach may have started many miles away and the other bits and pieces could be almost anywhere. Over this past year, we have been scattered, at times isolated and cut off from one another. Being scattered can be lonely and painful. Like sheep without a shepherd, if we are scattered, we are at risk.

Thanks be to God though that we have a shepherd, one who gathers us, sees us distressed and dispirited and feels compassion for us. Take courage we are Holy Vessels whom God gathers to make us whole once again.

We’ll explore these themes in today’s sermons through the story of Ezra sought to rebuild the temple and received aid from an unlikely ally. We’ll are reminded in Ezra’s story that God’s hand can be upon us in uncertain times gathering us back together.
