Why would Jesus turn water into wine as his first miracle?  This seems like a curious miracle. Jesus could have done anything and as his first miracle you would think he would want to do something spectacular. Turning water into wine seems almost a miracle on the level of a parlor trick. So why this miracle and not something else.

The key to understanding why is in looking closely at the language used in the story. Specifically, the passage speaks about this miracle being the first of his “signs”, it mentions Jesus “hour”, and his “glory.” Furthermore, the choice of water jars that Jesus sent the servants to fill is not a trivial detail. Much is revealed about the work of Jesus in that choice.

All three of those words and the jars are clues to understanding how this miracle reveals who Jesus is, why he came, and what he is going to do. Listen and learn as Rev. John Arnold unpacks the rich wonder of this amazing miracle.
