Do the “end-times” scare or confuse you? You’re not alone. In today’s sermon, we’re digging into why Jesus’ return is both a cause of concern and of comfort. This topic, the second coming of Jesus, is a critical yet often overlook doctrine of the christian faith.

In today’s sermon, we’ll explore how the combination of two truths about Jesus’ return are a compelling motivation for ethically and morally behavior. Those truths being that Jesus will come again, and yet no one (not even Jesus) knows when.

Rev. John Arnold will also reveal how two reasons Jesus’ second coming can be comforting:

First, Jesus’ return means the end of all suffering. Listen closely as Rev. Arnold reads the beginning of today’s passage, Mark 13:24-37 and you’ll notice the phrase, “after these sufferings”. From this we learn that Christ’s second coming does not bring terrible and cataclysmic events. Quite the contrary, Jesus brings the full presence of God resulting in the end of pain, suffering, tears, poverty, and all injustice. The second advent of Jesus initiates the restoration of all of creation. This is great news.

Second, facing judgment is scary for people; however, at the end times we do not find seated on the throne of judgment a harsh, cold-hearted judge seeking vengeance. Rather we encounter a lamb, one who has already placed himself under God’s judgment on our behalf. Consequently, we can face judgment with confidence, rather than fear and trembling. This too is great news.
