Today’s worship service was filmed on location at the Veterans Cemetery in Birdeye Arkansas in recognition of Memorial Day. Memorial Day in the United States is a time of remembrance; specifically, remembering soldiers who have died in the line of duty for their country. Reflecting on their willingness to sacrifice can be a point of reflection regarding Christ’s sacrifice to secure our peace. In fact, ‘securing our peace’ is exactly how the suffering of Jesus is described in the prophetic book of Isaiah.

In today’s sermon, Rev. John Arnold reflects on the power of remembering. Remembering can be toxic and binds us to the past. Or, remembering can be empowering as it inspires us and gives us hope.

Lastly, Rev. Arnold raises us up the hope that all believers may feel in the face of death, whether we stand at the graveside of a soldier or a loved one. He reminds us that as people who know the resurrection death is not a time of only looking back in longing, but a time of looking forward with hope.
