Old Testament Lesson: Psalm 118:14-29
New Testament Lesson: Revelation 1:4-8

How do you view Jesus?  Do you see Jesus as a compassionate, all loving, teacher reaching out to the poor and the oppression? Do you see him as a good and moral man?  Do you see Jesus as a champion of social justice issues?  If so, that isn’t a bad thing, but it’s extremely limited.

I like to call these perspective on Jesus, “the nice guy Jesus.”  The Jesus who is essential a super good version of us that we should strive to be. But viewing Jesus in this way, is about as limited as looking at the Grand Canyon through paper towel tube.

Or perhaps, you favor the “historical Jesus.” The Jesus you know from his actions in the gospels. That’s probably a Jesus is not very unlike the nice guy Jesus.  But, this too is a grossly limited perspective.  History when it applies to Jesus is not a matter of approximately thirty-three years from zero A.D. to 33 A.D.  Jesus spans eternity and any perspective of Jesus that is less than eternal is not historical.

Knowing the nice guy and historical Jesus is…well, nice.  However, there is so much more to know and experience of Jesus.

Listen to today’s sermon to expand your understand of Jesus to include the cosmic, resurrected Jesus who has been in existence before all things.
