MORE INFO ABOUT YOGA AT FIRST

What are the classes like?

Sessions are gentle beginner-friendly classes with a prayerful atmosphere. Lot’s of modifications are offered to meet people where they are. You do not have to be flexible to start yoga. Flexibility is a product of yoga, not a requirement.

We start on our mats with breathing and gentle stretches to ground our attention and prepare our bodies. We typically only move to standing postures and back down once to make this class as accessible as possible to people with limitations on getting up and down. Each session includes a devotional reading.

Why yoga at a church?

Scripture tells us that our body is a temple. We have a sacred duty to take care of that temple. We have a sacred duty to maintain our physical, mental, and emotional health. Yoga can be a fantastic practice to do so. Yoga is also a form of exercise that is accessible to anyone willing to try. Consequently, yoga is a great way to support and encourage one another in maintaining a healthy lifestyle that allows us to give God our very best.
